Physical and occupational therapists at the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital evaluate children and adolescents with the following impairments and functional limitations:

  • Decreased endurance, arousal, or attention
  • Difficulty with self care activities--such as dressing, bathing, and eating
  • Difficulties processing sensory information like sound, light, touch, or movement
  • Difficulties processing visual and movement activities
  • Decreased ability to move or use arms or legs effectively for function
  • Decreased muscle strength or unusual muscle tone (hypotonia or spasticity)
  • Impaired motor function
  • Pain
  • Decreased balance
  • Decreased ability to move due to pain, weakness, joint stiffness, or decreased sensation
  • Any impairments affecting functional activities such as dressing, bathing, sitting, walking, or playing with friends or family


For outpatient physical or occupational therapy, please call 1-888-824-0200. Your doctor must write a referral for services.

For inpatient physical or occupational therapy, please contact the physician who is seeing your child in the hospital.
