Percussion Position for Infants

Learn the various percussion techniques for infants.

First position for upper lobe percussion

Lean forward 30 degrees. Percuss between the clavicle and the shoulder blade on each side of the chest.

Second position for upper lobe percussion

Lean back 30 degrees. Percuss between the clavicle and the nipple on each side of the chest.

First position for lower lobe percussion

Your infant's body should be positioned with head down 30 degrees and lying on his or her side. Percuss below underarm. Perform on left and right side.

Second position for lower lobe percussion

Your infant's body should be positioned with head down 30 degrees and lying on his or her abdomen. Percuss between lower edges of rib cage and behind the underarm on each side of the spinal cord.

Third position for lower lobe percussion

Your infant's body should be positioned with head down 30 degrees and lying on his or her back. Percuss on the front of the chest in the nipple area and just below.
