Advanced Treatments for Pediatric Epilepsy

The Pediatric Epilepsy Center at Comer Children’s Hospital at the University of Chicago offers advanced treatment options for children with epilepsy, from carefully selected drug regimens and sophisticated seizure monitoring, to comprehensive surgery plans. Our center is the busiest in Chicago and one of the busiest in the nation.

Our epilepsy team has made important breakthroughs as a result of the collaboration made possible by our Falk Center for Advanced Study and Care of Pediatric Epilepsy.

Before surgery is performed, our epilepsy experts use noninvasive monitoring techniques that combine complex mathematical equations with MRI images and EEG data to create 3-D images of the brain's electrical activity. These "electrical source imaging" studies help our specialists determine if surgery is the best treatment option. Our pediatric neurosurgeons use the detailed information from these studies to plan the most effective surgical approach. We are one of a handful of centers that can offer this remarkable technology to young patients.
