Sinusitis
Many children have sinusitis. Symptoms include frequent nasal congestion, nasal drainage, cough, postnasal drip, and facial pain and headaches. Symptoms can be sudden and typically following an upper respiratory tract infection, or chronic illness of prolonged duration. Our expert pediatricians may use a variety of tests to accurately diagnose sinusitis. It is important to rule out other conditions such as allergies, a weak immune system, and cystic fibrosis.
Our pediatricians usually treat sinusitis with antibiotics in combination with occasional use of steroids. If medical treatments are unsuccessful, surgery may be required. At the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, our pediatric otolaryngologists use CT-guided surgery equipment, not available at most hospitals, to view progress during surgery and facilitate a safe and complete procedure.
