Volunteer Opportunities
You can help patients and families in a number of ways:
Developmental Play Groups
Volunteers are responsible for transporting patients to and from the playroom and interacting with the children during each playgroup. Developmental playgroups are run daily for each age group to foster healthy development and peer interaction in a safe, supportive environment. Volunteers help with these groups during the following times:
- Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Creative Expressions Art Group
Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 9:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. This group allows hospitalized children the opportunity to express themselves through the use of many art materials. Volunteers work with the art therapist during the planned art activity with children ages 3 to 18.
Medical Bingo
Tuesdays, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Volunteers help run the group as well as provide support to patients playing at their bedsides.
Bedside
Encouraged for experienced volunteers, our bedside program allows volunteers to work one-on-one with patients in the hospital rooms. Volunteers bring age-appropriate toys, games, and art activities to children and play with them in their hospital rooms. Volunteers can work variable hours during the playroom's open hours.
Emergency Department Volunteers
Under the supervision of our child life specialists, volunteers provide support and developmentally appropriate activities for patients and families in the emergency room. Volunteers work shifts between 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
