Our Facilities
"We previously used [another local children's hospital] as our main resource, but the play facility at U of C is far superior to theirs, and this will be a factor in our future decision-making."--A recent family
The new University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital is designed to create a soothing atmosphere of healing--and play--for children and their families.
The hospital's many play spaces offer safe, fun-filled places of refuge where no medical procedures are performed.
On the first floor of the Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, 24,000 square feet is devoted to a dynamic play space for children and their families, including:
- Playroom, a central play space for young children
- Teen room, a private space for teens ages 11 and older
- Interactive outdoor space next to the playroom
Additional play spaces are located on floors five and six near the patients' rooms, floor four within the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and floor three within the pre-op/recovery area.
