Q. What is the background of this event?
A. The Comer Kids' Classic is part of a long-term commitment made by a grateful patient family, the Mohans, to raise funds and awareness for Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago.
Jimmy Mohan was 4 years old when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. The Mohan family brought Jimmy to Comer Children’s Hospital. A CT scan showed that a tumor was located near Jimmy’s ear and adjacent to his brain. It also had metastasized to one lung.
After a yearlong battle that involved chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, Jimmy was declared the winner. He's now a healthy and cancer-free 12-year-old who keeps active by playing soccer, baseball, and karate.
