Big Dreams for Little Hearts
A pediatric cardiology support group--including parents and medical professionals--that provides support, education, and hope to families whose lives have been affected by pediatric heart disease. The group works in connection with the nationwide support groups Mended Hearts and Mended Little Hearts.
We know that dealing with pediatric heart disease not only affects the patient and their parents, but the whole family. During the adult-focused support group, we also offer a peer and patient support group. Patients and their siblings are welcome. This group is run by a Comer Children's Hospital child life specialist.
In addition to monthly meetings, the group hosts various social events throughout the year so that families may come together to celebrate the lives of their children. They also organize hospital and telephone visits by trained and accredited visitors who are familiar with extensive hospitalizations and life in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
Many of the members are part of an online group where they can post information about their children, ask questions, and be linked to various Web sites that may offer more information about their children's specific condition.
