James Nachman, MDProfessor of PediatricsDirector, Clinical ProgramsAn internationally renowned cancer expert, Dr. James Nachman is an authority in the medical management of childhood cancers--especially leukemia, lymphoma, bone cancer, and soft tissue sarcomas. He is one of the world’s leading experts in hematologic malignancies and sarcomas in adolescents and young adults (ages 16 to 24). Dr. Nachman is a leader in the Children’s Oncology Group's (COG) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and Hodgkin’s disease study committees. He is also a liaison between COG's ALL committee and other international ALL strategy groups. His major contribution in ALL was the development of an aggressive chemotherapy protocol for ALL patients who have a slow response to initial chemotherapy, which has dramatically increased the cure rate for this group. Recently, this intensive regimen has produced increased cure rates in high-risk, rapid-responding patients. Dr. Nachman also developed a unique chemotherapy protocol for the treatment of osteosarcoma that produces excellent cure rates and is associated with fewer side effects than other therapies. Dr. Nachman has published many papers in major medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. He has spoken at many international and national conferences, and he consults on difficult cases from around the world. Practice LocationUniversity of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital
