Donald C. Liu, MD, PhDMary Campau Ryerson Professor of Surgery and PediatricsSurgeon-in-Chief, University of Chicago Comer Children's HospitalDonald Liu, MD, PhD, is internationally recognized for his expertise in pediatric minimally invasive surgery, a type of surgery that is performed through small incisions, rather than large, open incisions. In many cases, he was the first surgeon in the greater Chicago area to offer certain advanced minimally invasive procedures to treat young patients. These breakthrough procedures result in less pain, less tissue damage, less scarring, and a faster recovery for children, a population that is particularly sensitive to surgery. Dr. Liu offers a full range of both traditional, "open" procedures, and minimally invasive surgical approaches, including those for pyloric stenosis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Crohn’s disease. Dr. Liu’s interests also include diabetes research and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Practice LocationsUniversity of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital
