South suburban families have a resource for primary pediatric care right in their neighborhood. At the Child Life Center in Flossmoor, University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s pediatricians provide well-child care, treat routine childhood ailments and manage complex conditions.
Here, Mark L. Roome, MD, Caroline Olaleye, MD, and Megan A. DeFrates, MD, plus four registered nurses, provide friendly, personalized care for infants, children and teenagers from the south suburbs to Joliet and the Indiana border.
More than 20 years ago, Jacque Baker began seeing Dr. Roome for her asthma condition. “I have vivid memories of being up at night and my mom on the phone with Dr. Roome when I was having trouble breathing,” the Oak Forest resident said. Now the pediatrician cares for her son, Liam.
“I trust Dr. Roome and wouldn’t have anyone else taking care of Liam,” Baker said.
After a routine checkup and further testing, Dr. Roome diagnosed the 12-month-old with iron deficiency anemia and prescribed an iron supplement. Since then, Baker has seen a dramatic difference in Liam’s energy levels, appetite and development. “If not for Dr. Roome, we might have missed this,” she said.
